Yeah,... been a{nother} month. We are soon reaching the time of the year when we are the most productive. In the mean time here is a work in progress. A tune Doug has needed to "get off his chest" for a long time . This was a tune recorded on a 4-track cassette recorder years ago. Never quite came out right in the mean time. But,.. time alone in the studio,.. a night of messing with the tone-lab,.. and a quick search through the drum machine patches,.. produced this.... It's a departure. A work in process.

Happy Independence Day. I wasted the evening working with a web publishing tool. I should have known better. This site is for shared access to our stuff. I should just go back to the mission of making that possible. Well,.. Anyway, tomorrow is Saturday and another session in the studio. Since I didn't make any progress on new pages or layout... Here are two of the tunes that needed to reappear here. Both are from jams in the studio with Mike Wolfe (drums) and John Eshelman (bass) "It's Rainin" was actually the sound check for the first session. "Long Time" was a jam in the middle of the second session. The think they are both two chord jams that went places.

Yeah,.. June,... Damn it, Jim! It's summer,.. there are a lot of things to do. Kayaking, camping (Dave and Sandy) Working on the money pit you live in (Doug). Anyway. We have been doing things. Just not much action here. We really need to get a lot of things back up here as well as some really great stuff that is gathering dust in the archives. Well at least something got written here.

Here are the final mixes of Blue Skies Now and Back Home. Final as in --we are done messing with them for now. I think there are things we would both change, but we are ready to move on. Both mixes have Jeff Coleman from Steam Powered Studios on lap snare. It is great to get out from under a drum machine.

Blue Skies Now. During the week, Dave re-did the keyboard parts. Saturdays session involved adding a new lyric, a new bass line and fresh vocals. The version here is only a rough mix. There is still a rough patch toward the end. We don't know exactly what will happen there but,...

Our good friend and taskmate Jeff Coleman stopped by. I will put a link here to Steam Powered Studios honest. Anyway he was kind enough to bring his lap snare along and put some percussion on some things for us. Although I didn't collect it until the next week, here is the new version of Back Home with the live drum.
Back Home (live drum)
In addition, we started the first of the recorded versions of a new song. We messed with this purely out of the fun of playing together and ended up doing a live in the room recording. There are some audio blips in this version but,.. It is really only here to document the evening and show the travels this particular song is making. Jeff on snare. Dave on vocals and guitar. Doug on guitar.
It Happens all the Time
We also asked Jeff to put drums on an early take of a third song. This song had been worked on the previous week. Dave recorded the guitar and vocals. Doug recorded bass and (really bad) vocals. This version is here, once again, as a history of the evolution of the song. This was a version Dave sent to Doug so Doug could actually learn to sing the song.

We did some more re-tracking and re-mixing and mastering and came up with this newer verison of Back Home.
Back Home (New Mix)
On or About mid February 2008
We got a new tune to the point that we thought it would be good to put something here again. Back Home in it's first incarnation.
Back Home
D & D .... NEF .... The missing years.
This is Doug talking... We went through a period where it seemed that we recorded a bunch of songs and they all got left at the stage where... where it seemed that we recorded a bunch of songs and they all got left at the stage where... You know this isn't quite right so we shouldn't post it yet but,.. then ,.. we started working on something else... and a lot of stuff just never got posted. The worst crime of ommision in this period are the two sesions with Wolfie and Johnny (drums and bass). Those two sessions produced some really cool stuff and need to make it here soon. Then,... the recording deck malfunctioned and had to be sent off to the factory to be repaired. In actuality, that bit of time turned out to be a blessing in that we just went back to playing for 6 - 8 months. There are in-the-room records fom that period that may make their way here,... or make their way into recorded songs. The great thing about that forced interlude was that we went back to just enjoying the activity of playing. We started playing two acoustics across dining room table. We (at least I) need to be reminded of that evey now and then.
